Hi there! This is my very first blog post for Luxe Beauty Blog. Thanks for stopping by! Today’s post features a beauty tutorial that focuses on how to do a soft and natural makeup for mature skin. I did this makeup on my 58 year old self, and I felt a whole lot prettier when I was done. The key to looking soft and fresh when you have mature skin, is to use the right skin care products and to avoid overloading on foundation or on translucent powder. Most importantly, when applying makeup on mature skin, skin prep is a key element. The right skin care can give mature skin a gorgeous glow, so don’t skimp out on this part of your beauty routine.
For this look, I used the following products: a hydrating and soothing toner and serum, a nourishing facial oil, a rich moisturizing cream and a facial balm.
1. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater. Soothes and hydrates mature skin. Spritz on before applying any other skin care and after you finish applying the rest of the skin care. Makes your skin feel good when it’s misted on throughout the day.
2. The Ordinary Amino Acids + B5 Concentrated Hydration Support Formula. For mature skin, hydration or the lack of it, is a major concern. This product provides deeper hydration, thereby relieving that tight feeling mature skin often has.
3. The Ordinary B Oil Daily Support Formula for all skin types. This is such a great product to add before applying makeup. Moreover, mature skin needs more than just a moisturizer.
4. Weleda Skin Food, Original Ultra Rich Cream. One of my favourite creams for mature skin. And, it helps makeup to glide on smoothly, just like butter.
5. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. This skin balm is amazing for any rough or very dry areas of the face. What’s more, is that you can use it for the lips and for cuticles. And, I like to apply it over my makeup for a dewy finish.
STEP 1: For this natural glam makeup look, I used Kryolan camouflage makeup. This brand is from Germany and was created for makeup professionals. This cream foundation covers everything!! It’s a workhorse that pulls its weight. You’ll be amazed at how quick and easy it is to apply. And lastly, you only need a tiny bit, which is perfect for mature skin.
STEP 2: For setting the makeup, I applied a little Cover FX foundation powder. And, for days when you need to get out of the house as quick as a bunny, but you still want your skin to look good, you can just dust a little of this powder all over and mist a dewy setting spray on top.
STEP 3: I defined my sparse AF brows with Urban Decay Brow Blade in Cool Cookie. It’s a pencil and brow pen in one and that rocks my world. I started with the pencil half, and finished detailing with the pen side. In addition to me using it on my brows, I also use the pen to line along my lower lashes. It creates such a fine line, perfect for the lower lash line. Finally, any makeup product that can pull off triple duty, is my kind of makeup product.
STEP 4: I defined my lash line with Il Makiage liquid liner (black). Eyeliner makeup can be difficult to apply so it helps if you stretch the lid out a little when you apply it.
STEP 5: MAC shimmer shadow (Kiss of Klimt, gold) highlights the centre of the eyelids, below the arch of the brows and the inner corner of the eyes. For a budget friendly option, try Wet n’ Wild Megaglo highlighting powder.
STEP 6: Curl lashes and stroke on a little mascara or glue on a couple of lash inserts if you have sparse lashes like me. Lastly, finish the eye makeup by lining the waterline with a skin toned eye pencil. I used Sephora Brand jumbo liner in Secret Boudoir to brighten, wake up and open up my eyes. Also, it’s good to keep in mind that a skin toned pencil looks more natural than a white one.
STEP 7: Dab on cream blush on the apples of the cheeks and on the lips. For this makeup, I used e.l.f. putty blush in Bahamas. I applied it onto the apples of the cheeks, and then I dabbed illuminator on top of it. The illuminator was applied to the tops of the cheeks and down the bridge of the nose and the centre of the lips. I used NYX illuminating stick in Pink Lace.
STEP 8: Finish the cheek makeup by stroking cream bronzer below your cheekbones, along the sides of the nose, and along the jawline. You can also apply a little bronzer along the crease of the eyelid for added eye definition. (NYX illuminating stick in Sandy Glow) (see video). Lastly, BLEND WELL into the skin using a makeup sponge or a blender brush.
STEP 9: Line the lips with a darker shade to plump them up, and fill them in with the lighter lipliner of your choice. For this makeup I used Face Atelier lipliner in Sand and NYX lipliner (colour unknown).
STEP 10: Mist on a setting spray to keep the skin looking moist and plump, and the makeup in its rightful place throughout the day. I chose Milk setting spray.
*pro tip: mist the setting spray onto a makeup sponge and dab it around the eyes, chin and mouth to prevent slipping or creasing.
